What is Narm?

NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM)

The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM®) is a cutting-edge, trauma-informed therapy designed to address the long-term effects of developmental trauma, attachment wounds, and chronic patterns that keep people feeling stuck in their lives and relationships.

Rather than focusing primarily on past events or symptoms, NARM helps clients understand how early relational experiences shaped their nervous system, identity, and ways of relating—to themselves and to others. The work is present-focused, collaborative, and respectful of each person’s inherent capacity for growth and resilience.

What is NARm used for?

NARM is especially effective for individuals who experience:

  • Chronic anxiety, depression, or emotional numbness

  • Difficulty with relationships, boundaries, or intimacy

  • Persistent shame, self-criticism, or feeling “not enough”

  • Patterns of people-pleasing, control, avoidance, or disconnection

  • Trauma that does not feel tied to a single event

  • Challenges with autonomy, identity, or sense of purpose

  • Ongoing nervous system dysregulation or feeling easily overwhelmed

It is commonly used to treat complex trauma (C-PTSD), attachment trauma, and relational trauma, particularly when traditional talk therapy or symptom-focused approaches have not led to lasting change.

What makes narm different?

  • Non-pathologizing: You are not defined by a diagnosis or trauma history.

  • Present-focused: Change happens through awareness in the here and now.

  • Relational: The therapeutic relationship is a key part of healing.

  • Gentle and attuned: No pressure to relive traumatic memories.

  • Empowering: Emphasizes autonomy, agency, and personal meaning.

NARM supports clients in moving beyond survival and into a fuller sense of connection, vitality, and self-direction.
